What’s It About?
What’s It About? was my debut short play, produced in February 2026 by the New York Theater Festival. The play was awarded Best Production Short for the Fall/Winter 2026 Festival! It was directed by Rachel Arianna, stage managed by Allison Podlogar, and starred Matisse Carmack as Vera, Katharine Yeargin as Jenna, Elijah Martinez as Sam, and Jenna Sage as our Swing.
Two best friends and roommates become estranged over secrets, guilt, and betrayal. But don’t worry, it’s a comedy!! Vera doesn’t know she’s the subject of Jenna’s book. She’s not happy when she finds out. 4 years pass. Jenna doesn’t know Vera is engaged to her ex boyfriend, Sam. She’s not happy when she finds out. Why all the secrets? What’s it about??
When writing this pocket sized play, I aimed to show women at their best and their worst. Oftentimes we see these complex male figures who do some morally gray things that we still are meant to root for and celebrate, so I wanted to show flawed women that are lovable, funny, and ultimately good people who just made some (pretty big and life altering) mistakes!
